Dylon Fabric Dye

Dylon fabric dye from £4.95 — machine and hand dyes for refreshing faded colour or changing a fabric outright.
What dye will and will not do
Dye works on natural fibres — cotton, linen, viscose, silk — and barely touches polyester, so check the composition before you start. Any polyester thread in a garment stays its original colour, which is worth knowing before dyeing a made-up item.
Dye also adds rather than replaces: it combines with whatever colour is already there, so blue over yellow gives green, and nothing will come out lighter than it started. Weigh the dry fabric and follow the quantity on the pack — too much fabric for the dye is the usual cause of a patchy result. Wash first to remove any finish that would resist the dye.
