Jacquard is named after the loom that makes it, which controls each warp thread individually and so can weave a complex pattern directly into the cloth. The design is structural, not a surface print, which is why it has texture and why the reverse shows the pattern in negative.

That construction gives weight and body, making it a natural choice for curtains, cushions, upholstery, waistcoats, jackets and occasion wear. Finish the raw edges, as the floating threads on the back can pull, and press from the reverse so the woven relief is not crushed.
