Woven tapes, herringbone weave and bias binding

Narrow fabrics serve distinct roles in sewing, whether you are binding an exposed edge, reinforcing a stress point, or constructing sturdy ties. While traditional cotton tape uses a simple, flat weave made from 100% cotton, narrow haberdashery includes other weaves and fibre blends designed for different tasks. Alongside pure cotton tape, you will find polycotton bias binding woven from 65% polyester and 35% cotton, as well as woven herringbone tapes produced from 100% acrylic.

Matching tape width and fibre to your sewing project

Selecting the right narrow trim depends on the finish, flexibility, and colour you need for your make:

  • Standard cotton tape: Spun from 100% cotton and machine washable, this plain tape is supplied in black, white, and natural shades. It provides dependable utility for craft work, bunting strings, and general utility ties.
  • Polycotton bias binding: Cut to fold smoothly over raw fabric edges, this 65% polyester and 35% cotton binding is available in a wide range of colours. It is well suited to neat edge finishes on towels, flannels, blankets, and dressmaking projects.
  • Herringbone tape: Woven with a distinctive angled texture from 100% acrylic fibre, this tape comes in two sizes—25mm and 38mm—and 19 different colours. The firm weave makes it particularly useful for handles and structural support in bag making, as well as reinforcement in dressmaking.
