Working with chiffon georgette prints

Chiffon georgette combines sheer transparency with the subtle, slightly crinkled surface characteristic of georgette weaves. This fine texture provides a touch more stability under the sewing machine than high-slip sheer fabrics, helping dressmakers control narrow hems, gathers, and enclosed French seams. Because the cloth is translucent, flower prints and vintage rose motifs take on a soft, layered look when gathered into tiered skirts, flutter sleeves, or draped necklines.

When working with sheer printed textiles, keep in mind that internal construction details, including seam allowances and interfacings, will be visible from the right side of the garment. Using fine pins and sharp sewing needles prevents pulls and snags along the delicate grain as you stitch.

Using 150 cm wide prints for bridal and occasion wear

At 150 cm (60 inches) wide, these fabrics offer generous cutting space across the crosswise grain. The width is practical for cutting continuous lengths for bridal dress overlays, trailing sashes, and sweeping evening skirts without requiring pieced seams across the pattern. Because the ground cloth is sheer, the colour of the print will naturally interact with whatever fabric sits beneath it; auditioning your chosen lining under natural lighting will help you assess the finished depth of the floral pattern before you cut into the metreage.
