How taffeta lining behaves in dressmaking
Taffeta is a fine, crisp woven fabric recognised for its smooth texture, gentle lustrous sheen, and the distinctive rustle it creates when you move. The term originates from the Persian word tafta, describing its woven nature. When used as an internal lining, its low-friction surface allows garments to slip comfortably over other clothing layers, preventing hemlines from riding up or bunching during wear.
Working with 150 cm wide polyester taffeta
Our range features plain polyester taffeta supplied at a practical 150 cm width. A broader width allows generous pattern pieces—such as long coat panels, formal skirts, and tailored jackets—to be cut efficiently with minimal piecing or waste across your pattern layouts.
Unlike limp or highly slippery lining fabrics, polyester taffeta holds a stable, crisp body that behaves well on the cutting table. It holds pressed folds and runs smoothly under the sewing machine foot without excessive stretching, making it a reliable option for finishing interior facings, pocket bags, and clean hem edges.
