Ribbing Tubular

Tubular ribbing from £6.95 a metre — stretchy ribbed knit for cuffs, waistbands, necklines and hems.
Sewing with continuous tubular ribbing
Tubular jersey is knitted in a continuous circle rather than as a flat open sheet, meaning it comes off the bolt as a seamless tube without selvedges. For smaller circular pattern pieces such as sleeve cuffs, this construction allows you to cut a band directly around the circumference and fold it double, avoiding an extra side seam where bulk can feel uncomfortable against the skin.
If a project requires a wider strip, you can also slit the tube cleanly along one side to lay it out flat and cut it just like standard knit yardage.
Garments that use lightly ribbed jersey trims
The options in this section are fairly smooth and only lightly ribbed, offering a fine, neat finish rather than a coarse, heavy cord. This subtle surface texture works well alongside lightweight and midweight stretch fabrics for several everyday garments:
- Cuffs and waistbands on hooded sweatshirts
- Snug waistbands for jersey leggings
- Ankle cuffs and waistbands on casual tracksuits
Because the knit structure stretches and recovers around the body, these bands grip wrists and ankles gently to keep the shape of the garment tidy through regular wear.
