Accuracy, pre-cut

Paper piecing works by tacking fabric around a precise paper shape, then joining the shapes edge to edge by hand. Because every piece is built on an identical die-cut paper, the angles come out exact — which is the only practical way to get hexagons and diamonds to meet cleanly.

Templates do the same job for rotary cutting, giving a repeatable shape without measuring each time. Leave the papers in until the surrounding pieces are all attached, then remove and reuse them.
