Structure and frames
Boning holds a shape the fabric cannot hold alone — corsets, bodices, bustiers and strapless bridal all depend on it. Fit it into its own channels rather than stitching through it, and cap or round the ends so they cannot work through the cloth in wear.
Embroidery hoops hold fabric drum-tight while you stitch, which is what keeps tension even and stops the work puckering. They also make a ready-made frame: a finished piece left in its hoop is a perfectly good way to hang it.
