Which Gutermann thread to use
Gutermann is the default thread in most sewing rooms because it is consistent: the same reel behaves the same way on an overlocker, a domestic machine and by hand, with very little lint and no thin spots to snap mid-seam.
Sew-All is the general-purpose polyester and covers almost everything, on woven and stretch fabric alike. Extra Strong is for bags, upholstery and anywhere a seam takes load. Top Stitch is thicker and sits proud, for visible decorative stitching on denim and jackets. Quilting thread is smooth-finished to pass through layers and wadding without dragging, and silk is for fine fabrics and hand tailoring. Larger reels cost less per metre if you sew one colour often.
