What goes inside
A cushion is only as good as its filling. A pad gives an even, tailored shape and is easily removed for washing the cover, while loose stuffing lets you fill an irregular shape — a toy, a bolster, a nursing pillow — and control the firmness yourself.
Buy the pad slightly larger than the finished cover, usually by two or three centimetres each way: a cover stuffed to capacity looks plump and deliberate, where one that exactly matches its pad looks limp at the corners.
