Woolcraft yarn weights: Aran versus super chunky

Choosing between the yarns in the Woolcraft selection comes down to your project gauge and how fast you want the knitting to progress. An Aran weight yarn is a traditional mid-weight option, commonly used for garments such as cabled jumpers, cardigans, and textured winter accessories. The stitch definition works well for structured patterns without feeling overly bulky.

In contrast, a super chunky yarn is substantially thicker and worked on larger needles or hooks. The heavy gauge means stitches and rows build up rapidly, making it practical for quick blankets, cowls, and winter hats.

Woolcraft fibre blends and compositions

The range includes two distinct compositions, depending on whether you want natural animal fibre or a purely synthetic yarn:

• Wool blend: Shetland Heather Aran combines 25% wool with 75% acrylic, spun in Turkey. The wool content provides classic warmth and texture, while the acrylic content keeps the knitwear lightweight.
• 100% acrylic: Urban Chunky is spun entirely from acrylic fibres, creating a super soft feel that works well for crafters who prefer wool-free yarn for skin contact.
