A 44-inch (112cm) bolt width is standard for patchwork and quilting, but solid plain cotton is equally suited to everyday clothing and smaller craft work. Because pure cotton has a balanced, non-stretch plain weave, it feeds evenly under a sewing machine presser foot, holds a pressed crease, and does not slip when cut with shears or a rotary blade.
