Warm, forgiving and no hemming

Fleece is knitted then brushed on both faces, which traps air and makes it warm for very little weight. The single most useful thing about it for a sewer is that it does not fray — cut edges can be left raw, so blankets, scarves and simple garments need no hemming at all.

That makes it ideal for children's projects, pyjamas, hats, snoods, pet beds and no-sew blankets. Use a ballpoint needle and a slight zigzag or a walking foot so the knit can stretch with the seam, and do not press it hot — fleece is synthetic and will flatten under a dry iron.
