Understanding satin weaves, finishes and prints
Satin is distinguished by its structure rather than its raw fibre. In a classic satin weave, the warp threads cross over four or more backing threads. This minimises visible interlacing on the face of the material, leaving a continuous, shiny surface that catches the light and lends crisp detail to printed designs. Lightweight varieties such as charmeuse provide a fluid, flowing drape, with some styles featuring a shimmer foil finish for extra reflective sheen.
