Yarn Dyed Fabric

Over 100 yarn-dyed cottons from £1 a metre — checks, stripes and ginghams woven from coloured thread, so the pattern runs right through.
Woven in, not printed on
In a yarn-dyed fabric the thread is dyed before weaving, so the pattern is built from the coloured yarns themselves. The practical result is that it looks the same on both sides and cannot fade or wear off the way a surface print eventually can.
That makes it the traditional choice for shirts, school dresses, aprons, table linen and quilt backings where both faces may show. Checks and stripes are woven on the grain, so cut on a single layer and line the pattern up with your seams — a check that drifts off-square is far more visible than a print that does.
