How iron-on interlining adds structure to fabric
Interlining acts as an internal layer that gives body, stability, and shape to sewn projects. When pressed onto the reverse side of a cloth, an iron-on interlining fuses directly to the fibres, reinforcing areas that need extra support such as garment facings, collars, cuffs, or craft items. A medium white standard iron-on interlining, measured at 90cm wide, provides balanced support for everyday dressmaking and remains washable once applied.
Selecting the right weight prevents fabrics from collapsing or feeling too rigid. A medium interlining reinforces lighter or mid-weight cloths while maintaining their shape and clean finish.
Bonding fabric to fabric for applique and craft projects
Fusible web differs from standard interlining because its primary role is joining two pieces of cloth together rather than adding bulk. It offers a clean, straightforward way to bond fabric to fabric without relying solely on pins or basting stitches.
Options like Fuse-a-web Lite provide a lightweight adhesive web designed specifically for applique and general craft work. Because it is a lighter weight version, it holds fabric shapes and motifs firmly in place on base fabrics without creating stiff patches, making it easier to guide the edges through a sewing machine.
